More on the French Paradox

I had recently joined Harveys of Bristol, up to that time rather pedestrian in its choice of clarets and soon introduced the wines of Pomerol. We had a fantastic success with the 1947s, especially with La Croix-de-Gay 1947 which for many years I used to open alongside that celebrity among clarets the 1947 Cheval-Blanc and, indeed it used to beat it time after time. Such richness did those Pomerols possess that each resembled more a vintage port than a wine from Bordeaux."
