4b: Complex Thick Full Bodied
Glug GH12 Individual Barrel Selection Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Region: Barossa Valley
Cabernet is one of the noble varieties yet when the great table wine boom gathered strength in the 1970s it exposed quickly how little was planted. For many centuries the French wine trade was dominated by reds from Bordeaux which is classical Cabernet country, so the race began in Australia to catch up.
The Barossa Valley does not have a climate like Bordeaux so this meant opening up cooler, more maritime regions. I though do not believe any variety reaches a pinnacle of perfection at some climate point and it is long overdue for discerning palates to return to Barossa Valley Cabernet as they will be staggered with the complexity. Indeed warm climate Cabernets have a very great future as does this great wine.
