Exciting Blend of Mataro and Grenache
Goat Square Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2018
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
The first Goat Grenache Shiraz Mataro was made in 2006 and then in 2008, 2010, 2016 with the latest, the 2018. You need good ripe years to make the best GSM’s as the three varieties do not ripen in perfect sequence with the two difficult varieties being Mataro and Grenache.
All seems to be going well then either can collapse just at the end of harvest. When the weather is right the three varieties make a harmonious whole which has the wine singing in the glass.
Of all the blends of red and whites made across Australia the Barossa GSM blend is the one where the three varieties when pulling together lift the wine to another level. Experiments with the three no doubt go back in time though serious attempts had to wait until consumer interest had awakened to support the efforts of wine-makers. That time is now.
