Winemaker Innovation of Single Barrels
Glug GH86 Winemakers Individual Barrel Selection Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Region:Barossa Valley, South Australia
The Barossa is famous for Shiraz, yet Barossa Cabernets were seen as a standard Barossa variety by the Orlando family in the 1950s. Somewhere Cabernet lost appeal as a Barossa red. Perhaps I should revise ‘lost’ to say they never gained appeal.
Even so by the 1980s Cabernet was widely planted in the Barossa Valley yet was used in blending and not as a Barossa varietal red.
These Individual Barrel bottlings will show why Barossa Cabernet belongs on your dining table.
Glug was involved with Barossa Cabernet from our early vintages in 2004 and 2005 though we did not take grapes under contract until 2011.
We now understand the potential of this remarkable variety well and this has been enhanced by Benjamin’s wonderful idea of separating out several of the best barrels to be released as Winemaker’s Individual Barrel Selections.
This GH86 Single Barrel will repay medium term cellaring though is gorgeous now.
