9th Vintage Release of Grandma
Grandma Raethel Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Barossa Valley Cabernet deserves a far higher rating than it currently receives.
Back in the 1950s and 1960s Barossa Cabernets were rated as some of the country’s best wines though these days fine Cabernets are more often associated with cooler climate regions. Cabernet ripens well across a wide spectrum and think of the Lakes Folly Cabernets of the Hunter Valley.
What to favour and what to drink are influenced by fashion so take advantage and swing back to warm climate Cabernet while they are under-priced.
The first Grandma Cabernet was the 2009 and the 2016 is the fourth. The source varies across many vineyards in the Barossa Valley rather than being a single vineyard wine or one associated with a small region.
The 2016 year has left us with a great vintage as is now apparent as they mature.
