Fragrant Soft Pure Expression Of Fruit
Glug 'The Cannibal' Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Region: Barossa Valley
I live in Vine Vale and the vineyard which grows this Cabernet is just down the road close to the turn-off to the old town of Angaston. The grower is special as he retains small lots of many odd things. This Cabernet plot has always been different, this will be a clonal thing, plus with the Eastern location on sandy slopes, makes a different sort of Cabernet. Many Glug Cabernets come from South of Tanunda and are robust and tannic, needing a style of fermentation and then oak maturation and age to soften.
The fruit used for the ‘The Cannibal’ is different making fragrant, perfumed, soft wines and being shy of tannin is normally used to blend with other Cabernets. I hasten to add we do not add this style to our Cabernets. In 2019 Benjamin got together with a colleague and wondered if the fruit should be treated differently and made in a manner to drink young. The result is splendid and brings another look at the Barossa to Glug customers. You will obtain much joy from this Cabernet.
