Glug W1719 Barossa Valley Semillon 2018
Region:Barossa Valley, South Australia
Semillon was widely grown in the Barossa Valley for use in fortified wines as the variety grows well not only in cool maritime climates but also in much warmer regions and of course is acclaimed in the Hunter Valley.
During the 1980's it became very popular and the Peter Lehmann Barossa Valley Semillon was made in enormous quantities. This was a light fruity style of white with added sweetness. During the 1990's popularity passed to Sauvignon Blanc, particularly that grown in New Zealand, sadly resulting in Barossa growers pulling out their vines, many of great age. Behind this there has been a small number of wineries making limited amounts of distinguished Barossa Valley Semillons, the most important being Christa Binder Deans at Rolf Binder-Veritas Wines. Benjamin has made this wine in the style of those Championship Semillons.
