Best Barossa with Barrel Aged Adelaide Hills
Glug W1709 Barossa Valley / Adelaide Hills Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Region:Barossa Valley & Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Semillon is a most adaptable variety and has been grown in Australia perhaps from the start, as early as in the 1790's. This variety also crops well across a wide climate spectrum.
In the 1990's Penfolds wished to make a white wine to rival the famous Grange red and conducted many experiments with Adelaide Hills Semillons. These bordered on perfection after extensive barrel aging. It was not to be as the end result however, as Penfolds Yattarna is Chardonnay.
The Barossa Semillons are naturally more flavoured, being riper than those from the Adelaide Hills and to this base Benjamin added barrel aged Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc.
