True Expression of Traditional Barossa Rose
Langdorf Kaldukee Barossa Valley Rose (Grenache Mataro) 2019
Staying the course and staying true to the faith is very hard. Seeing other regions or wineries doing better, or customers moving to a different style, and combining this with falling sales will test the strength of all but the fool-hardy.
Yet the traditional Barossa rose as made with Grenache and Mataro or just with Grenache has no equal. Glug can keep this flag flying as one strength of selling on-line directly to customers means we can make small quantities for a select gathering of special customers.
A large winery would have to make thousands of cases of this wine. The price would be at least double, and it would be a very hard sell.
Time will bring smart drinkers back to the joys of warm climate whites and Roses and in this blend neither Grenache nor Mataro would get ripe enough in a cool climate to make this style.
It is rare and special and will appeal to a small group that can move beyond fashion and are comfortable with their selections.
