Durif Adds Magic
Crayford Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif 2018
Region:Barossa Valley, South Australia
The art of blending is to make additions to an attractive base wine to enhance particular features, like the aroma or the body weight, so that the final wine is more complex.
At Glug we are now convinced that Durif has a role in many of the styles we wish to make. Durif is a nice fit with Shiraz as being a cross of Shiraz with Peloursin it does not push the shape of Shiraz in an odd direction, and we find it adds palate length and strength to many wines.
Durif is a quite recent discovery dating back to 1868 in France and remarkably found its way to the Rutherglen region in 1908 being thought suitable for the region by the viticulturalist Francois de Castella.
Benjamin has been experimenting with Durif since 2005 and we believe it has an important future in the Barossa Valley.
