Impressive Full Flavoured and Ripe
Auld and Burton Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2014
Region: Langhorne Creek, SA
Three Jimmy Watson winners in succession, in the mid-1970s, made by Wolf Blass from 100% Langhorne Creek fruit, signalled this region was greatly undervalued. This inspired big companies, such as Orlando, which were in expansion mode to plant new vineyards, and the back-bone of many agreeable, lower priced, reds since then has included wine from Langhorne Creek.
Recognition though as producer of premium reds, other than those made by Wolf Blass, has taken longer to arrive. These days Langhorne Creek gets a more positive response from customers and because of the large plantings dating back to the 1980s quality grapes are far cheaper than the Barossa Valley. Incidentally Auld and Burton is a brand we use for discoveries, the first being the Auld and Burton Clare Valley Shiraz 2008.
