Drinking Perfection
Farmers Museum Selection Muscat
The collection of fortified wines that are housed at Seppeltsfield, Barossa Valley are a wonder to behold. Ports, muscat’s, tokay’s, sweet to very dry styles of sherry, all in oak with a large percentage having an age over 30 years with of course the Para Port collection going back to 1879. Who could ever afford to accumulate such a holding again? This collection is a National treasure and many a sip we have been fortunate to have from these stocks.
The problem is that we wine drinkers have lost interest in the charms of these wonderful wines. I think the holding is about three million litres and this evaporates at about 3% each year. At the moment the sales are smaller than the evaporation rate which is not a good business model. We know the folk at Seppeltsfield quite well so they let us compose our own blend from the muscat holdings, which are ex-Rutherglen, and this is the wine we now offer as Farmers Selection.
There are several quality layers above this wine but we are very pleased with what we achieved for our budget. This was a very tiny job but brought out the very best of the ‘wine merchant’ from the Glug team. It was fun to do. Ben wants mention that he spent a weekend getting the wax tops right. We hope you enjoy the result
