Full of Flavour and Delicious
West Winds McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
Region: McLaren Vale, SA
This cabernet is very cheap for the quality and depth of flavour it delivers. Like the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale is most famous for its expression of shiraz but what you may not know is that over the last few years it has been awarded more major Trophies for cabernet, including a recent Jimmy Watson than for shiraz. When we buy wine we are naturally very aware of the variety but finally if a good wine comes our way we will buy it regardless of the variety. This trip we had been looking for a shiraz but ended up with a cabernet. I know you as a potential buyer hate all this stuff about how we cannot reveal where we got the wine or the name of the vineyard; but that is how some of these deals are done when the wines are cheap. No one wants to own up that they could not sell their wine or they got a miserable price. So when pride and honour is at stake we pay for the wine and keep our word.
The label concept comes from the strong westerly’s that blow across McLaren Vale and normally keep the region cooler than the Barossa plus it is a play on the famous old brand of Seaview which seems to have disappeared.
