A Mass of Tempting Flavours
Goat Square Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
Cabernet from a warm climate takes on a vastly different expression of aromas and flavours than that made for example in Coonawarra or even cooler regions. In the northern part of the Barossa is a famous Penfolds vineyard where it is said the oldest cabernet in the world planted in 1882, still fights to survive being.
Indeed they occasionally release a cabernet from this block and for your fact book in 1953 released a Grange Cabernet from this block, the one and only example. We are big supporters of Barossa cabernet and this wine was made for us at Veritas by Rolf Binder. Rolf left the grapes out to hang and hang and only someone with his nerve and skill would dare do this. The result is an explosion of riotous fruit flavours the like of which we doubt you will have experienced and we believe will change your opinion of cabernet from a warm region. This has made me reflect on the joy of drinking Orlando Barossa Cabernet’s from the 1960’s which were and no doubt still are simply wonderful.
