Goat Square Barossa Valley Shiraz 2006

This is Classic Barossa Valley Shiraz. 90% of the fruit came from vineyards north of the town of Tanunda which marks the area where the top of the valley flattens out to the hot plains. This is the area from which much of the great Penfolds reds were produced.

As you head south, The Valley slowly syphons out the rivers to sea. There was also a smaller parcel of shiraz from this southern lower altitude area added to the blend. This hillier and generally cooler region contributes a herbaceous lift to the wine - Max Schubert, maker of Grange Hermitage, liked to add a touch of cooler climate fruit to his wines for this effect.

The list of growers who contributed fruit to this wine reads like the ‘Past Presidents’ honour roll at the Tanunda Bowls Club – Koch, Pfeiffer, Riebke, Burgermeister, Kalleske, Schiller et al. The parcels were individually fermented and aged in oak then skilfully blended with the assistance of Barossa Artisan and friend of Glug, Kym Teusner. If you want to step up in price looks at Kym’s brand, Teusner Wines - his ‘Riebke’ shiraz is an industry benchmark.

We are very excited to be able to offer a wine of this quality at such a cheap price. A great place to invest your drinking dollar.
