Single Vineyard - Obst Cabernet
Goat Square Obst Vineyard Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Region: Moppa Road - Kalimna, Barossa Valley, SA
Winemaker: The team at St. Halletts and Stephen Obst
We have been down in the Barossa for a number of years now and see very clearly how the region is made up of different sub-regions. West and north of the centrally located Barossa town of Nuriootpa is a short strip of country, centred around Kalimna which can be loosely called ‘Grange country’ after the famous wine.
This smallish area is transected by Moppa Road and includes an important vineyard owned by Stephen Obst. Shiraz is the grape all the companies want from this area but near the Obst property is a famous small vineyard of cabernet planted in 1880 from which Penfolds have made some remarkable wines. Thus we were delighted to acquire a small quantity of this deeply coloured and fleshy tasting Obst cabernet.
A full flavoured, full bodied wine and being still youthful has a long life ahead.
