Terrific Summer Drinking
Cleanskin Central Ranges Sangiovese Shiraz 2008
Region: Central Ranges, NSW
Gee this wine is fun to drink. It comes from the relatively cool, high range country around Mudgee known as the Central Ranges so while it’s cheap for you to buy it’s not cheap to make. Also the main variety is sangiovese which is the famous Italian variety used to make Chianti.
The sample came across our desk as one that could be bought very cheaply but only in very large quantities – wineries need cash and need to empty tanks. We hit the phones and managed to find a buyer – and a hundred odd cases for Glug customers at the very cheapest price.
The colour is not as deep as a Barossa red, don’t be put off – there’s a lovely savoury nose, plenty of flavor and a firm, dry finish that good Sangiovese should have. A terrific summer drinking red.
