Karrawirra Single Vineyard 'The Nuriootpa' Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
I think this is the best wine we made from 2013. We named it after the centrally located Barossa town of Nuriootpa - the capital of the Barossa. The vineyard is on the outskirts of the town with old vines around 80 years with some a bit younger.
We agree with those who express fondness for the vintage as it offers depth of flavour and length and when wines are hand made as this Karrawirra was I can guarantee a long life and steady development.
As I often remark a small tonnage of grapes from a single vineyard of which the best part is placed aside makes no sense in big wineries. They add together grapes from many patches so the individual difference is lost.
These wines are called Barossa Valley but they are not like this Karrawirra as the consumer can connect back to a single tiny location. Will develop with cellaring should you wish.
