Kitts Creek Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2007

Region: Barossa Valley, SA

Another big, ripe red from the Northern Barossa Valley.

The shiraz is from a vineyard Andy Kalleske’s owns with his father, John. These guys have made a break from supplying big companies like Fosters and now, with the exception of one grape contract with Peter Lehmann, have spread their grape supply across the many artisanal makers in the Valley. The downside is they often have to wait a little longer to get paid but broad sighted growers like these are helping give the Barossa a new winemaking culture of its own. We are lucky enough to have our name on three rows of shiraz vines and take the yield each year.

We can’t tell you who the growers were for the cabernet as they do still supply a big company who often object to the little bits we sneak out the back door.

The wine was made by the remarkable Barossa artisan Kym Teusner. Half spent 18 months in four year old oak while the other half was placed in shaved and fired barrels.

This one is big and ripe with an almost sweet sensation on the mid palate. Terrific Glug value.
