This wine is unusual in that it is predominantly Mataro with lesser volumes of Grenache and then Shiraz - most wines of these styles you will find are Grenache or Shiraz predominant.

Mataro is a very late ripening grape and tends to be difficult as often the wines will end up with quite harsh tannins - as a result it is mostly used as a minor percentage in blends.

With modern viticultural and winemaking practices, we are starting to get a better grasp of this variety, how to handle it in the vineyard and winery and how to coax it through softly.

You will see more Mataro predominant blends and even single varietal wines being released over the next few years as this trend is gaining momentum.

‘Garagiste’ is a term used to describe winemakers who make wine in very small quantities - often these wines are actually made in the “garage”. All wines appearing under The Garagiste label have been made by such a winemaker.

Small volume means attention to detail and allows focus on the qualities of that particular parcel of grapes and wine. We believe this will produce a wine more individual in style than those produced in bulk quantities.
