Terrific Red at Rock Bottom Price
B L Raethel Barossa Shiraz Cabernet 2008
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
This terrific red is 77% Eden Valley Shiraz 2008 which we purchased from a mid-sized company as excess to their needs. This group is very well financed and are only interested in making 'The Best'. At the right price, we often find second best perfectly adequate so we leapt at the chance to purchase this blending base very cheaply.
20% Barossa Valley Cabernet 2008 came from the famous Riebke Brothers Money Garden block which is up on the hot northern subregion of Ebenezer. These hot, northern vineyards produce very dense weighty cabernet which is perfect for adding flavour and depth to blends.
And the final 3% being the magical Petit Verdot, also from the northern Barossa Valley but from a grower named Andy Kalleske. Like viognier in a shiraz viognier blend, a little petit verdot goes a long way and we find 3 - 4% is normally about right.
A terrific drink at a rock bottom price.
