Independent Thinking from Great Artisan
Teusner Independent Barossa Valley Shiraz Mataro 2016
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
We are big supporters of Barossa Shiraz and Mataro and love this 50%-50% blend from the crew at Teusner. Writing this note makes me recall I wrote the first Teusner newsletters back in 2005. Ben and I met Kym when we began Glug out of the Rolf Binder winery in 2004 and as it so happens Kym was the winemaker with Rolf.
Kym, with Rolf’s approval, began making a few batches of wine starting with the 2002 vintage. Rolf Binder is a noted authority on Barossa Mataro as his family first made a Bulls Blood containing Mataro back in the 1950s. Thus Kym has been taught by the best how to use the superb potential of Barossa Mataro as have the Glug crew.
Kym reminded me that the first 100% Mataro he released was from the 2006 and the wine was called Righteous and fittingly this was made at Rolfs winery. All in all I’m very pleased we have extended our offering to include this magical Barossa blend as for me it sums up the future direction of wine making from this remarkable vineyard region.
