From The Heart of the Limestone Coast
Oakley Adams Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Region: Coonwarra, SA
Founded in the 1890s initially as a fruit colony Coonawarra had a very difficult youth. The now fabled cellars of Wynns were built for the future which never came; not till the 1950s when a wave of change ushered in the golden age of table wines.
Good even great wines were made in the 1960s, those of the 1970s were poor and then the 1982 John Riddoch proclaimed Coonawarra as a global giant.
Its status is a bit flat at the moment but will steadily grow but until then very good wines can be purchased at reasonable prices. Benjamin Parker has been very active and this is another of his discoveries.
Cabernet is a safer bet than Shiraz which can be a bit mean and green so generally we concentrate on finding good parcels of Cabernet then give these further barrel age at the Samuel Road winery in the Barossa Valley.
