Auld and Burton Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
Region: South Australia
I have no idea why this wine was offered to us as surely you would release it under your own label at say $35. Think I’m exaggerating?
It is deep, warm and thick and will age for a long time and is a first rate example of the best of the Barossa. As explained in my introduction and to simplify what this wine is about by a number I start with 94/100.
However on a value for money score it is way off the scale. I recently drank a bottle of the Karrawirra St Kitts Single Vineyard which we sell for $25.99 and this would give that outstanding wine a nudge.
I actually cannot say a lot more as that would give the game away though I remind those new to what we do that I have been a wine merchant for a very long time and these days do not make mistakes. If you prefer reds from the Yarra Valley or Mornington Peninsula then this warm climate Shiraz is not of course for you.
