Glorious and Complex Barossa
Glug 'The Outsider' Barossa Valley Cinsault 2017
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
We have been dealing in Cinsault for the last four years since we discovered a top supplier. It is not common in the Barossa Valley but is one of the heritage varieties dating back prior to C1900.
It is widely grown along the Meditteranean coast of France and also in Algeria and Morocco so it can handle the odd burst of heat which hits the Barossa Valley. We like the variety as it shows aromas and flavours that are not seen in Shiraz and Cabernet.
Benjamin has been using it to add complexity to a range of wines and this tiny bottling was done to show customers on tasting day many of the varietal components we use to make the final wines.
It is delicious on its own in the same way that Grenache is, and we see great possibilities in the variety as a luncheon to late afternoon red. A smart al-fresco style with cold meats-that sort of wine and I think the variety will prove quite a discovery for Glug customers. Limit one case per order.
