I’m never happy even though Glug customers are an adventurous lot. New, odd, and old heritage varieties are often referred to as alternative varieties. Alternative to what? To us they are simply good drinks with a twist. We promote them, as drinking wisdom comes from drinking widely. Thus I admit defeat as I have not been able to tempt you at $9.99, so the Bonvedro is SMASHED yet it’s not a cheap taste but the luncheon red you need. .. more...

It is simply not possible to find a Barossa Valley Shiraz of this quality in any retail store. Equivalents like Pepperjack will set you back $17. I praise the scientists in the CSIRO packaging division in the 1950-60s for solving the technical problems which today preserve the tiny amounts left after major bottlings of our fabulous Barossa reds. .. more...

A general view in retail is; ‘don’t tell the customers that, they do not need to know’. Mostly its trivial stuff and as such I also take this view. At the other extreme I have rarely come across deceit which customers should know about. Which leaves a wide zone between some of which you are likely curious about. Which leaves a wide zone between some of which you are likely curious about. I have found that snippets picked up over a life of visiting wineries and drinking enhance the picture of what makes wine so interesting. .. more...

NEW WINES
Farmer's September Favourite
Region: Coonawarra, SA

This new release is simply fabulous and now I am trapped as it needs a higher than 10/10 value for money rating. I give a lot of our wines high value for money ratings as when compared to what similar dollars spent in a conventional liquor store would buy the ratings are true.

Great Vintage Great Prospects
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
Every ripening cycle of the grapes is different. This leads to vintage charts as they provide numbers to measure what nature has given the fruit. In cold climates a good rule of thumb is that a warmer season makes more interesting wines than a season when it is harder to ripen the grapes.

New Great Value Bush Telegraph
Region: South Australia
I believe all who drink wine have admiration for those who labour hard to make the greatest wines, some of which sell for $1000 a bottle. At times we may envy those who can afford the wines.
Back in the day to day world over 30% of wine is sold in casks and much of this is very good.

WORDS FROM DAVID FARMER
'We welcome any customer but you will enjoy the best of Glug if you like to see what nature brings. We make small batch lots, hence no two wines will be the same, as we are happiest when preserving the differences of wines. What we do best is buying at the farm gate and challenging our customers just a little with the many small variations we discover and create in our winemaking.'

Fabulous Value from the South
Region: McLaren Vale, SA

We have struck gold down south and purchased a mixed collection of Chardonnays from McLaren Vale.

The McLaren Vale climate is tempered enough by the prevailing ocean and gulf winds to stop the flavours of this variety from blowing out.

This variety can become too fat from the Barossa Valley for  more detail...

We Search, We Divine, We Find!
Region: South Australia
I often make the point that the expertise of a wine producing country or a large wine company should be judged not by the great wines but by how well they make cheaper wines.
At the micro level we take up this challenge with The Diviner.
Psychics try to divine the future but our use of the term 'Diviner'  more detail...

Bargain from Ultra-Premium Region
Region: Adelaide Hills, SA
As settlement advanced across the country pioneer grape growers tackled the Australian high country but as you need different skills to the low lying, warmer regions their efforts were not successful. While vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and the ranges of Eden Valley date back to the 1840s we had to wait for  more detail...
