The winemaker uses the equipment available to ferment the grapes to make the wine. Winemakers have a big influence on what you drink and we wish to be well removed from big company wines. Down at the Glug winery on Samuel Road, Barossa Valley; Benjamin Parker and Greg Liebelt do all the labour to produce our vast range.

I’m a retailer, I need sales, even when this price will offend the winemakers, as it will. You see they get very precious about their wines so I will skip work Monday morning as being told off before lunch is not good for my nerves. Still this will keep Glug customers happy which pleases me. So out goes this ripper for $51 a case. And please limit yourself to a maximum of two per order. .. more...

You can drink well at lower prices though it requires following two rules: 1. Be sceptical about point scores and claims as to how much better some wines are as over time this builds to the belief that quality and price are linked with a mathematical certainty; 2. And coupled with this thought try to be unfashionable, meaning search where others do not. .. more...

Yes we are wine makers and wine merchants but above all else by selling directly to customers we are also retailers. The only reason for any retailer to be in business is to sell goods that customers want. Then you must deliver and the big advantage we can bring is to make and discover the high quality wines you want and be sure they cost you far less. .. more...

Boldness will not come from dusting off old ways of winemaking or pretending to make natural wines but from rethinking how to get a good drink to the customer while lowering the price.

Great Vintage Great Prospects
Region: Barossa Valley, SA
Every ripening cycle of the grapes is different. This leads to vintage charts as they provide numbers to measure what nature has given the fruit. In cold climates a good rule of thumb is that a warmer season makes more interesting wines than a season when it is harder to ripen the grapes.

I believe all who drink wine have admiration for those who labour hard to make the greatest wines, some of which sell for $1000 a bottle. At times we may envy those who can afford the wines.
Back in the day to day world over 30% of wine is sold in casks and much of this is very good.

WORDS FROM DAVID FARMER
'We welcome any customer but you will enjoy the best of Glug if you like to see what nature brings. We make small batch lots, hence no two wines will be the same, as we are happiest when preserving the differences of wines. What we do best is buying at the farm gate and challenging our customers just a little with the many small variations we discover and create in our winemaking.'

Fabulous Value from the South
Region: McLaren Vale, SA

We have struck gold down south and purchased a mixed collection of Chardonnays from McLaren Vale.

The McLaren Vale climate is tempered enough by the prevailing ocean and gulf winds to stop the flavours of this variety from blowing out.

We Search, We Divine, We Find!

I often make the point that the expertise of a wine producing country or a large wine company should be judged not by the great wines but by how well they make cheaper wines.
At the micro level we take up this challenge with The Diviner.
Psychics try to divine the future but our use of the term 'Diviner'  more detail...

Stand Out Barossa Shiraz
Region:Barossa Valley
This Burgoyne is all we like and look for in a wine. The origin is the most sought after region in Australia-the Barossa Valley, the grapes were grown by well-known farmers, the wine maker Benjamin Parker prepared the wine for bottling which is a critical job and we supervised the bottling locally.
