Southward Ho with Yalumba By the 1880's-1890's Yalumba had a strong local reputation for its ports. Depicted in 'Yalumba and its People' (1999), is a 4 Crown Port label used prior to 1914. The most famous Yalumba 4 Crown Port advertisement depicts Sir Douglas Mawson and six members of his Antarctic Expedition, presumably 1929-1931, enjoying Christmas around a table on which are placed four port bottles. The label shown is much later and probably dates to the 1950's and 1960's, twenty or so years before the last gasp of the Australian fortified wine era. The 4 Crown motive was also used by Yalumba on many other wines both table and fortified.
